House plant styling ideas - carnivorous plants
Find out how to display these quirky house plants in your home, with our pick of the best Instagram inspiration.
Carnivorous plants may seem a bit daunting as a houseplant choice. But with the right conditions and care they can thrive, plus they'll also help reduce the numbers of gnats and flies in your home without using chemicals.
Nepenthes, also known as the pitcher plant, makes a striking impact in the home. The pitchers are in fact modified leaves, containing sweetly scented digestive fluid designed to lure, trap and feed on small insects.
Nepenthes x ventrata is a great beginners' carnivorous plant, it is relatively easy to grow and produces an abundance of gem-coloured pitchers that will glow when sunlight shines through them. It's a hybrid pitcher plant which copes better with less humidity and lower temperatures than its parent species so it is easier to grow at home. Displaying it in a hanging container will show off the pitchers to great effect.
Here is our selection of Instagram highlights, featuring impressive pitchers and flourishing carnivorous collections. We’d love to see your carnivorous plant photos, so use #houseplantsgw when posting your house plant portraits and we’ll share our favourites on Instagram.
