Flower seeds to sow in July
We might think of spring and autumn as the best times to sow seed, but there are plants that you can start off in midsummer. Long, warm days with high light levels speed up the germination process, helping you to boost stocks of perennials, biennials and indoor exotics.

Delphiniums
July is the last month to sow these cottage garden stalwarts, for flowers in their second year. Delphiniums are outstanding plants for bees, too.
Strelitzia
Fancy sowing something a bit different? Strelitzias (Bird of Paradise) are vibrant perennial greenhouse or houseplants, and can be sown throughout the summer months. The spectacular blooms make beautiful cut flowers, too.
Forget-me-nots
Forget-me-nots (Myosotis) can be sown from May to September, mimicking the natural process of seed dispersal and germination that follows their spring flowering. A beautiful self-seeder for dappled shade.
Pansies
By sowing pansies now, you'll give them plenty of time to develop before the planting where they are to flower, in autumn. Sow early in the month for spring blooms. Here are eight pretty pansies and violas you could grow.
Wallflowers
If you're looking for long season of colour, wallflowers (Erysimum) are a must. Keep deadheading the blooms and they'll keep on coming. Wonderfully scented.
Foxgloves
