A medium-size of North American shrub, Hydrangea quercifolia has large and deeply lobed leaves similar to those of American oak, which mature from dark green to various shades of bronze, orange and reddish-purple in autumn. The flowerheads are large with numerous sterile, star-shaped florets. It's a striking plant for a mixed or shrub border. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
Grow Hydrangea quercifolia in moist but well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Plants need shelter while young.
