Named after the Dutch Princess Maxima, Rhododendron 'Prinses Maxima' bears double flowers in a delightful pink-cream, with spots of maroon red all over the petals. It’s one of the hardiest rhododendrons, and is therefore perfect for growing in cooler regions where other rhododendrons might need protection. With its compact and rounded habit, it’s suitable for growing in a mixed herbaceous border or part of a patio container display.
Grow Rhododendron 'Prinses Maxima' in humus-rich, moist but well-drained neutral to acidic soil (or peat-free ericaceous compost). Rhododendrons are shallow-rooted so take care not to plant too deeply. Mulch annually with a generous layer of leaf mould. There should be little or no need to prune.
