10 of the best Christmas wreaths for your front door
Give your house a festive finish with these eye-catching Christmas wreaths.
A Christmas wreath welcomes guests into your home with a little bit of festive cheer and a celebration of the nature that's still on offer through the UK's coldest months.
Traditionally made from evergreens, including holly and ivy, with a sprinkling of red berries, real Christmas wreaths now include a wide variety of fresh and dried plant material. Shape can also vary from the traditional circle to stars, hearts and semi-circles.
We have curated a mix of wreath styles, shapes, foliage and materials to show what's on offer this year and provide inspiration for your own Christmas decorations.
For those who would prefer to have a Christmas wreath that can be reused year after year, we've also hand-picked some sustainable, plastic-free options made from materials such as felt and stained glass.
And while most of the reusable wreaths can be hung with the ribbon or string provided, some of the larger, real wreaths will require a metal wreath hook.
If you would like to try your hand at making your own, take a look at our guide on how to make a classic Christmas wreath for inspiration.
Why do we have wreaths at Christmas?
Christmas is filled with traditions that help us get into the festive spirit and hanging a Christmas wreath on the door is one of them. As with most traditions, there are various different meanings behind the hanging of a Christmas wreath.
Wreaths are typically made from evergreens, which signify strength and eternal life, while the round shape is believed to symbolise the circle of life. For some Christians, the wreath is representative of Jesus' suffering and is meant to symbolise the crown of thorns worn on the cross. Red berries are often used to represent his blood.
In Christianity, wreaths are hung on front doors to invite the spirit of Christ into the home, and they can also be used to observe advent. Traditionally in advent, a candle was added on each day of the countdown, with Sundays traditionally marked with a white candle.
However, it's also suggested that the origin of the wreath can be traced back to the Ancient Romans who wore and hung wreaths to celebrate a victory.
